Why Sensata Care was built in Puerto Rico

¡Hola mi gente!

Soy Amber, founder of Sensata Care, and if you’re anything like me, you know what it’s like to live with sensitive skin that seems to react to everything. Especially to the ingredients in the products we have available here on our beautiful island.

After moving to Puerto Rico to care for family and reconnect with nuestra cultura, I was getting devoured by mosquitos and mimes (no-see-ums), at all hours of the day. Even in my own home, while sitting at my desk!

So I went in search of a clean and non-chemical product, and guess what, I couldn’t find anything. Products were either full of químicos or had menthol or citronella, making my skin (and nose) feel worse.

That led me to researching online for products to ship to Puerto Rico, but none of the ones that met the basic requirements had that option. Basically, the clean products I wanted didn't ship to Puerto Rico.

So, I started experimenting with my own formula. I tested clean, plant-based ingredients on myself, looking for relief that didn’t burn, smell awful, or make my skin freak out. And guess what? It worked. That’s how my first product, Calma Skin, was born.

Pero, this isn’t just a product, it is about a movement for sensitive skin sufferers in Puerto Rico. We deserve clean and non-irritating products for the everyday products we need. We need to build a community that supports products and businesses that are for sensitive skin and for anyone who wants to enjoy nuestra isla without suffering.

Sensata Care is about creating more products and a community, but more importantly, it’s about creating sustainable future for Puerto Ricans. And this is just the beginning.
